What is a brow lift (also known as a forehead lift)?

A brow lift or forehead lift raises a furrowed eyebrow and eliminates and forehead wrinkling. The procedure lifts drooping eyebrows, eyelids and the nose while removing frown lines by tightening the underlying muscles and tissue. The procedure also:

  • Improves horizontal lines that run across the forehead
  • Improves frown lines: the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows (also known as “11 lines”)
  • Places the brows in a youthful position

Signs of Aging

As we age, skin starts to lose its elasticity. Everyday factors like gravity, stress or too much sun can cause lines, forehead wrinkling and a heaviness of the eyebrows. Drooping of the brow or eyebrows is often one of the first signs of aging.

First Step

For many, a brow lift is often the first choice for facial rejuvenation. By raising the brow, the whole face may brighten by tightening the skin. A brow lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures. Common rejuvenation combinations include brow lifts with upper eyelid surgery, or a brow lift with facelift to attain a more overall youthful appearance.

Recovery

Initial wound healing can take 10 to 14 days, and you should be ready to return to work and normal activity after that time. During initial recovery, your surgeon may use tape or wrapping on your forehead to minimize swelling and bruising after the procedure. Your surgeon and/or nurse will give you specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site, medications to take and additional follow up instructions.
