A new alternative to surgery for frown lines and wrinkles, BOTOX®Cosmetic is a nonsurgical procedure that is commonly used to restore skin to a more youthful appearance, smooth out frown lines, eliminate forehead creases and reverse the presence of scars.
This treatment relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines to form.
It is safe for all skin types, even sensitive skin. If administered by a qualified and experienced physician, you should still be able to frown or look surprised—but without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
A survey conducted by American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in 2004 reported the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure was BOTOX® injection, with the number totaling
2,837,346 men and women in the United States.

BOTOX® Cosmetic received FDA approval in 2002 for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and is available by prescription only. It's use was approved for injections that occurred no more frequently than once every three months, and at the lowest effective dose.
Because this treatment is administered with tiny injections and no anesthesia is required, you can have this procedure performed during an office visit with minimal discomfort.
Your normal activities can be continued with ease. A marked improvement will be visible within several days and your appearance may continue to improve for as long as a week.
BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance, but within days you may see an improvement that will last between four to six months. Results may vary. If you do not continue treatments, the frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.
BOTOX treatments have proved beneficial to appearance-conscious women and men in all walks of life. Its effects are soft and subtle, so you will not appear dramatically changed as if you have had “work done”. Some common side-effects following injection are headache, respiratory infection, flu-like symptoms and nausea.
There are some risks associated with the procedure. If too much toxin is injected, for example, or if it is injected into the wrong facial area, a person can end up with droopy eyelid muscles (ptosis) that could last for weeks. Although not considered surgery, the administration of Botox is a medical procedure with risks that depend on the training and experience of the clinician, the clinical setting and the technique used.
