Why Laser Resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is a cosmetic treatment that smoothes lines and wrinkles and evens discoloration from acne scars and sun-damaged skin. Laser resurfacing can be done alone, or with other facial enhancements such as facelifts, eyelid or nose surgery and facial implants.

How Does It Work?

Laser resurfacing uses the pulsating light of a small laser beam to create a precisely-controlled, layer-by-layer vaporization of superficial skin. The healthy new skin below is revealed by removing the outer layers of damaged skin. Following laser resurfacing, skin may be pink or red.

Laser treatments are performed in-office with local anesthesia. It may take several days to one-week for damaged skin to completely flake off and for the new skin to recover.

Any swelling will typically subside in two weeks or less, and makeup can easily cover any remaining redness. Most patients return to work after one to two weeks.

Sun exposure should be avoided for approximately six months following laser treatment, and patients should use a broad-spectrum sun block rated SPF 30 or above.
